Summary[edit] Description: The Spot-necked otter, Lutra maculicollis, lives in permanent freshwater lakes, rivers and swamps of sub-Saharan Africa. This type of otter is a river otter. River otters live both on land and in the water as opposed to sea otters that spend most of their life at sea. Spot-necked otters in the wild eat fish, frogs and invertebrates. These otters have specialized bifocal vision that enables them to detect prey under water. Webbed paws make them excellent swimmers. Spot-necked Otter (year unknown). [exhibit sign].
