I thought a mosquito was biting my leg, but when I looked I was very surprised to see this bug. I quickly swept it to the ground and took this photo.

Several stick bugs fell out of privet that we were cutting in a dense thicket. The area is an upland prairie site that has been invaded by privet. Nearby, the terrain slopes to bottomlands of the West Fork of the Trinity River. Collected some nymphs & accidently squished one, which revealed a somewhat offensive odor.

Help requested with identification, please. Single individual observed on leaf of Senna alata. If I had to estimate, I'd say the size was around that of a thumbnail, so not very large. I didn't have a ruler handy to get a more exact measurement. Mid-80sF, humid, overcast, just after very heavy rains.
