Distribution: Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Body scaly. Scales small; ctenoid. Spines in dorsal fin 7-9. Anal fin spines 2-3. A single spine in pelvic fin; soft rays 5. Rounded caudal fin. Vertebrae 21-23.
