L. barnardi inhabits various kinds of subtidal sand, known from 0.5—150 m depth. New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, N. Carolina, E coast of Florida, Bahamas and Bermuda (all NW Atlantic and new records), and Pacific coast of Mexico.
