"The next day, I saw a Yellow-winged Grasshopper (Arphia conspersa ramona), ID'ed via a short video clip showing it in flight and my Sierra Nevada field guide book. That other grasshopper had the same ""heart-shaped"" bit on the upper thorax, so I'm thinking this is likely the same... but unfortunately, my ID book only shows a small side view and the focuses on the wing coloration, so I could certainly be wrong. Side note: Arphia conspersa ramona is not currently recognized by iNat."

Band-winged grasshopper with blue tibia. Foraging on ground in a pine forest dominated by Jeffrey and firs, with very low shrubs separated by open ground. Very low angle slope.

Along the Mount Pinos summit trail, we ran into some sort of grasshopper singles bar, where they were interacting with each other, backwards and forwards. When these guys flew, they had a nice yellow color, but I couldn't obtain a flight picture. They were present along the entire trail.
