The whole group numbered 77, spread out over the field. Elsewhere pairs of cranes had fledglings with them, but there was no sign of babies in this large group.
For my money, the most unlikely looking crane. Whenever I see it in a field guide, it reminds me of a child's drawing--the proportions just seem 'off.' But somehow it exists. Location very approximate. All I remember is that I took a different route than the coastal R27 from Postberg Reserve to Cape Town.
