Maximum longevity: 40 years (captivity)
Observations: Manatees may feature some form of continuous tooth development (Caleb Finch 1990). It is estimated that they can live 30 years in the wild (David Macdonald 1985), but probably longer. One wild born specimen was still alive in captivity at 40 years of age (Richard Weigl 2005).
