The African Black Oystercatcher is native to the mainland coasts and offshore island of South Africa up to Angola. There are estimated to be over 6.000 birds in total and according to the IUCN List the conservation status is NT (near threatened). We are very lucky to see them almost every time when we walk on the beach or along the Knysna Lagoon.
