After a day of presentations to the kiddos at Benbrook Elementary about being a biologist, I took a late lunch at this little park. There's a shallow creek on the edge, so nature was there! :)

Carolina Chickadee (Poecile carolinensis) 12 March 2017 Cross Timbers Park Denton, Denton County, Texas A single Carolina Chickadee was busy emptying the debris from the inside of a hole high up the trunk of a large elm tree. While we observed it made many trips to and from the inside of this hole only to come out and perch at a nearby branch and let loose the debris it held in its bill. Clearly, Carolina Chickadees nest at Cross Timbers Park.
