Nubian ibex is a success stopy of animal conservation in Israel. Many of them roam the slopes in the Negev and Judean deserts. This one is posing on the cliff of the Ramon Crater, one of our best reserves.

Cervus nippon (Sika or Shika in Japanese), related to the Asian Red Deer (thanks to Ishi for the ID!).
There are so many deers in Nara's parks, this male was in the darkest place, so I used my flash and got a surprising result.

We heard strange sounds from distance and than realized this is a large herd of wild boars.

Sika deer are common in Japan, each region has its own subspecies. In this species the spots remain in adults.

This beautiful animal was extinct in SW Asia 80 years ago. It was reintroduced in the 90th. This one was found in the Ramon Nature Reserve (S Israel, Central Negev Highlands, 900 m.) during a terrible heat wave, 44 centdegrees. It was hot enough for it to move slow and get photographed.

The nubian idex was almost extinct in Israel in the 40s, 50s. But now is flourishing in the Dead Sea area (where this pic was taken) and in the Negev Highlands. Its always a pleasure seeing doznes of them grazing on herbaceous plants as well as on trees. This is a yound male scratching its foot.

In the afternoon, herds of people leave Eig Gedi oasis reserve and animals can wonder about freely. This female is chewing Arundo reed.

The Asian Wild Ass was re-introduced to the negev Desert and there are already 1500 of them roaming the arid lands. We were lucky to these two yesterday.

Nubian Ibex are rare in the Middle East, inn Israel they enjoy protection. These were located in the far south of the country.

the nubian ibex is a desert wild goat. In israel it was rescued form extinction and nowdays quite frequent in the Judean Desert as well as in parts if the Negev Desert. Their main predator, the leopard, is unfortunately almost extinct. At Ein Gedi reserve one can enjoy these majestic creatures, they are quite tame.
