I was on a private 9000 acre ranch in Kenedy Co., Texas in the spring and summer of 2002. One of the employees of the ranch was clearing a section of mesquite brush near the edge of a 2 acre pond with a bull dozer and during this process I found a sheep frog crawling through recently turned over dirt. I took a few photos of the frog perched on and in a log then released it into an undisturbed area. THIS AREA IS NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND IS BEHIND LOCKED GATES.

I saw a breeding pair and one individual over about 20 miles. Both observations were on flooded road. However, I believe I heard many more and will post a recording. Not as abundant as the spadefoots or the toads.

A group of individuals from the San Antonio Zoo, Gladys Porter Zoo, UT at RGV, TxDOT, TPWD, and TNC were searching ephemeral ponds in US 77 ROW in Willacy County for black-spotted newt larvae. Searches also took place under any cover around the margins of the ponds. Two sheep frogs were dug out of the soil beneath a broken top snag by the surveyors. Multiple experts were in attendance to verify identification.
