Lifespan, longevity, and ageing

Maximum longevity: 11.2 years (captivity)
Observations: In the wild, these animals have been reported to live up to 3 years (Ronald Nowak 1999). One captive specimen lived 11.2 years at the Cincinnati Zoo (Richard Weigl 2005). Very few specimens have been kept in captivity and thus this species could be considerably longer lived.
