Ok here is the story on this. I had no idea this was rare or I would have taken more pics. Sorry about that. It was caught in an attic twice. The first time I did not think much of it and let lose about 1/2 mile away. Two days later it was back. Started looking for the access point found it hole about 3 inch square, and it was climbing 8 feet up the trim on the corner of a house.
Citizen scientist reported a spotted skunk that was living in an external wall of her house. The skunk was present for at least 4 days. The observer attempted to provide food and water for the skunk after the 2nd day.
Katie Moriarty camera trap. This is the first spotted skunk documented in the Sagehen Basin. The animal doesn't even appear on our mammal list. Tom Kucera ran camera traps in the Central Sierra--including Sagehen--in 1992 as part of an unsuccessful wolverine survey. He photographed a spotted skunk then, but it seems unlikely that it was actually in the Sagehen Basin given that a ring-tailed cat was also photographed at the same station. If you can ID the tree in these 2 photographs, please say so in the comments. It does not seem to be a species present at Sagehen. Douglas fir?
