This crayfish is grown in salted water. Their homeland is rivers and lakes, and salt was originally destructive for them. In the process of evolution, they simply learned to incredibly effectively remove salt from their bodies.

Los cladóceros son pequeños microcrustáceos que se encuentran en todos los sistemas epicontinentales, desde las latitudes tropicales hasta las regiones boreales. En México se les conoce como "pulgas de agua" y se utilizan como alimento vivo en los acuarios y como indicadores biológicos. Particularmente Moina macrocopa es uno de los cladóceros que se en encuentran en el estado de Aguascalientes, México; el cual, además de las utilidades mencionadas, se ha utilizado como animal experimental en estudios fisiológicos, embriológicos y genéticos. A pesar de su pequeño tamaño (0.5-3 mm), es importante estudiar su biogeografía y taxonomía, pues ello permitirá conocer las condiciones ambientales a partir de la caracterización de los cuerpos de agua, y así mejorar el manejo de los recursos naturales.
