Following the spring rains, Spotted Gar move up in to the shallow water areas of Lake Ray Hubbard to spawn. My son and I love to go see them. Occasionally we run into other cool critters like this Bowfin. Iknow it's not a great picture. It was tricky holding both the camera and the net.

Male found in about a foot of clear, weedy water. No nest construction noted. Detained long enough for ID photos, then released in the same location.
