Eriogonum microtheca var. simpsonii.Long known as Eriogonum microthecum Nutt. var. simpsonii (Benth.) Reveal. In 2014 a proposal was made to conserve the genus name in view of its long use but that proposal was rejected. Nuttall's original name was "microtheca" which as a noun in apposition does not have to agree with the gender of the genus, unlike names based on adjectives and therefore the original name is valid under the current ICBN rulesNote the nearly linear leaves.Sept. 25, 2010, Arches National Park, Grand Co., Utah
