O. schmackeri is very smiliar to the recently described Odorrana huanggangensis from Fujian. Since there is no exact account of the distribution of the latter, the specimen on the Photo could also be O. huanggangensis. Xingping, Guangxi.
A.C.R. Cordillera Escalera. In this picture, one can see the same specimen over a period of time of less than 1 minute. Obviously, these frogs are able to change colours quickly.
These harlequin frogs, listed critically endangered by IUCN, were fairly abundant on a path in the A.C.R. Cordillera Escalera during the day. Since they only live around the upper ro Huallaga valley, where many suitable habitats have been destroyed, these beautiful frogs are fighting extinction.
