Desmán ibérico avistado en rio afluente al Cavez en la zona de Tras os Montes al norte de Portugal. Observación totalmente fortuïta, sin captura. Condiciones perfectas de luz sobre el tramo de rÃo. Habitualmente es un animal nocturno asà que es bastante infrecuente avistarlo a plena luz del dia.La zona cuenta con buena población de esta especie.

Shrew-mole (Neurotrichus gibbsii), Pine Gulch Creek, Bolinas Lagoon Open Space Preserve, Bolinas, Marin County, California - 9 March 2015. Found dead on the trail in the morning, one of two seen this way. Corrections to ID welcome.

This mole was dead with no signs of trauma. So cute. Body about 2 in long. Very dark fur

Deceased.

Diseased, very recently run over by a truck. Not confident of the ID, you CAN see eyes, but there's also the enlarged digging feet and bristly tail which is why I came to the shrew mole conclusion?

I see these moles maybe once or twice a year dead on the driveway or on a path. They have no outward signs of trauma. I'm thinking they die of old age.
