Locality: NEW ZEALAND AK, suburb of Saint Johns, University of Auckland Tamaki Campus. Habitat: Beaten from cultivated ground plants in a courtyard area. Identification: Cosmopterix attenuatella (Walker, 1864). ID based on the literature (Hoare, 2011). NOTE: This is the second specimen that I can recall ever having encountered on campus here. I observed the first specimen about a month ago, but was unable to capture or photograph it. Elizabeth, Brent, Brian, and I put up the moth lights here and spotted more insects than I've ever seen before -- there were swarms of aquatic beetles, mayflies, and many other bugs. :) It was great, but it was also pretty hard to get a good picture. :-/ I'll work on ID's for these critters later with the discovery life moth guide and some other resources...
