Summary[
edit] Description: Another new moth! And not just for the garden this time, actually for me and my 11 years of recording Lepidoptera! I never thought I would ever catch one in my garden and my money was catching one on a field trip, in fact I got very close a few years ago when I did a field trip to Hemel Hempstead, stayed until 1am and after I had left David Kirk continued to run his trap overnight at Gadesprings Watercress Beds. By the morning he had one! I'm talking about the Brindled Beauty moth, a moth that has avoided me so many times despite regular trapping efforts early on in the year. It seems to be an uncommon moth from feedback I got from others in the County. Dead chuffed and despite a small catch I was suitably pleased. Summary[
edit] Description: Latest from the trap Back to the garden trapping last night and a nice selection of species greeted me at 5am whilst sorting through the trap. Not masses of moths but certainly quality over quantity. A completely new species for me was found, the pretty little Phyllonorycter nicellii. The larvae feed on Hazel for which there are a few trees in the near vicinity. A stunning metallic grey Oak Nycteoline was lovely to see also. Here are the last two nights trapping efforts with 10 new for year species things are finally creeping up. The weather seems to be a very mixed bag at the moment with temperatures around 19 degrees day and 12 at night and unfortunately cooling down for the weekend, typical as we have a field trip scheduled. Summary[
edit] Description: Large numbers of these breed on the Honeysuckle in our garden and many spend the winter, along with Agonopterix heracliana and A. arenella, hidden amongst the logs in the firewood store. This individual was lucky to escape death by taking flight as I was placing a log on the fire. Date: 30 January 2015, 12:05. Source:

Summary[
edit] Description: Catch Report - 28-04-13 Nearly into May and still dismal catches seem to dominate, at this time of year typically we see the post-Orthosia lull as we wait for the first summer species to arrive...this year though I think we may see a cross-over with spring species flying with summer species, possibly. Not alot to report last night, only new moth for the year was an Alucita hexadactyla and subsequently new for the garden aswell. It is only my 12th record ever.
