Type-specimen.—Cat. No.39432, U.S.N.M. ARCTURUS BREVISPINIS, new species. This species differs fromArcturus longispinus Bene-dict in having all the spinesquite short, those of the lastthree thoracic segments andthe first two abdominal seg-ments being almost rudi-mentary. The terminal ab-dominal segment in all thesespecimens is longer than inA. longispinus. The body iscovered with small, pointedtubercles. The first antenna?extend the length of the lastarticle bej^ond the second ar-ticle of the second antenna?.The last article of the firstantenna? is about three timeslonger than the third article. About nine specimens werecollected at station 4784, onthe way from ChichagofHarbor, Attu Island, around FlG. 2s.—arcturus brevispinis. x 2.2. eastern end and SOUth of Male- (Drawn by Miss V. This species is likewiseclose to Arcturus longis-pinus Benedict, but differsin having spines presenton all the segments of thethorax and abdomen, onlythey are all of the samelength and short, none beingrudimentary. The termi-nal segment of the abdomenis also longer than in A.longispinus. This speciesis very large, measuring 44mm. in length and 8J mm.in width. The spines on the bodyare short and stout. Thesurface of the body is cov-ered with short hairs. Thefirst pair of antennae do notextend much beyond thesecond article of the secondpair of antennae. The sec-ond antennae have the sec-ond article 4 mm. long; thethird 13 mm.; the fourth20 mm.; and the fifth, 17mm. in length.
