Summary[edit] Description: brown eyes, Chylismia claviformis subsp. integrior, California, White Mountains, Deep Springs Valley drainage, elevation 1783 m (5850 ft). As the flowers age on this showy desert annual, the centers often take on a brownish color. The species overall is distributed throughout the deserts of western North America. This subspecies is the common white-flowered phase of the Great Basin desert, being found throughout most of Nevada and into the edges of adjacent states. These images were taken near the southwestern limit of its range. The subspecies is found in dry, open, rocky to sandy soils below about 2000 meters (6600 feet). Date: 2 May 2017, 09:05. An interesting path to name this taxon. Fairly easy to get to Chylismia (part guess, part no other genera quite fit.) claviformis as species okay but subspecies more problematic. Originally had guessed either claviformis or aurantiaca but each had issues. Decided on funerea because of 1) location, 2)petals white fading purple, 3) sepal tips in bud free and conspicuous, 4) plant generally strigose. The only thing not fitting is 'lateral leaflets generally 0'. This could indicate that, per the description in Jepson eflora 'Intergrades with Chylismia claviformis subsp. aurantiaca, Chylismia claviformis subsp. claviformis; occasionally hybridizes with Chylismia munzii, Chylismia brevipes subsp. brevipes.'

Summary[edit] Description: Laws suncups, Chylismia claviformis subsp. lancifolia, California, White Mountains, Coldwater Canyon, Chalfant Valley - Owens Valley drainage, elevation 1625 m (5330 ft). This subspecies is a regional endemic, being confined to Owens Valley and adjacent foothills in Mono and Inyo counties, California, below about 1700 meters (5600 feet) elevation. It is distinguished from other subspecies by its yellow flowers and basal leaves mostly lacking any lateral lobes. These plants were just a few miles north of the type location for the subspecies, Laws, California, a historical railroad station just north of Bishop. The relatively pale yellow of these flowers suggest that these plants are intergrading with subspecies integrior (as subspecies often do, almost by definition) -- a more widespread white-flowered variant also found in this area.
