Part of the disbanded Cawthron Institute collection. Some of the original periostracum still adhering and lovely sculpturing beneath. Label reads: 'Fusitriton retiolus, Foveaux Strait. From lobster pot that had been submerged for about two years.' Fusitriton retiolus is still extant as an epithet on WoRMS but can't find photo to compare.

Sometimes these are rare, sometimes (like this weekend), they're everywhere in the intertidal. I wonder if they change depth seasonally.
