We believe these were slugs of some sort. They were found on the coyote bush in the formal pollinator garden.

Milky Slug, Deroceras reticulatum, observed on a sidewalk along Ellon Road, Aberdeen, Scotland. According to invertzoo, who ID'd it, this slug produces discharges a milky slime, hence its popular name. Lucky I did not disturb it!
