Temps were in the mid to high 80's today -- winter in Texas! I put up the moth light for a while tonight to see if I could get some February records for this area -- spotted mostly just the usual suspects. Still fun! :)

This guy looked kind of tattered. It was out in the cold yesterday morning. He was sitting on the Math building's door window. He was a pretty easy photo-op. I got most of the angles because he was on a clear window. I was reading and when I looked up I saw something dark on the window. I walked up with my camera and soon saw it was a large moth. I hardly ever see moths at school. The White-speck as it is called is named after the two little white dots on its wings. It is not the biggest moth I have seen but he is a good sized moth. I have seen this type before but only at night and it was on a Night Hike when I saw my first one. This one was spotted pretty early in the morning way after the sun started to come up. He looked like he had a bad day or something due to the way his back looked where that red blotch was and then the lower wing was as tattered a bit. It was a pretty cool find but he looked like he was having a very rough time. He wasn't all smooth and his scales weren't all solid.
