Summary[edit] Description: Superficially similar to Asian Black Bears the Sloth bear is in fact a very different beast. A large percentage of this bear's diet comprises of ants and termites. It has rather weak jaws for a bear with a long naked muzzle and a long lower lip which with the upper lip it can roll into a tube; the absence of upper incisors allows the bear to hoover up insects. These bears also have a taste for honey and carrion but eat less vegetable matter than typical bears. This image was taken at a small waterhole at sunset in Yala NP, Sri Lanka. Date: 29 July 2009, 13:12. Source: Sri Lankan Sloth Bear (Melursus ursinus inornatus). Author: Steve Garvie from Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.
