Summary[edit] Description: English: Brown Bear, Lahore Zoo. The Himalayan brown bear, also known as the Himalayan red bear, isabelline bear or Dzu-Teh, is a subspecies of the brown bear. 1. It is the largest territorial carnivore mammal in the region. 2. These bears are omnivorous and hibernate in a den during the winter. 3. Although present in a number of protected areas, they are becoming increasingly rare because of loss of suitable habitat and hunting by humans. 4. This bear (as the Dzu-Teh) is thought by some to be the source of the legend of the Yeti ( Abominable Snowman). Specs: Scientific name: Ursus arctos isabellinus (Ursus means in Latin- Bear, Arctos in Greek Bear, isabellinus - Isabel means Brownish, yellowish color). Family: Ursidae Height: 4-5 ft at Shoulder approx. Weight: 130-500 kg approx. Lenght: 2.2 m / 7 ft approx. Claws: 10 centimeter. Life Span: 20-30 years approx. Diet: Omnivorous, eats anything.
