Found washed up on the beach near Asilomar. Many thousands also washed up. Went back the next day for more pictures and they had all been eaten by gulls.

Hundreds of these guys were washed up on shore being feasted on by gulls.

Squat lobster parts? Lots of these on the beach, some deposited there as Heerman's Gull poop (see secondary photos of freshly observed!). ID as per Jensen, 'Crabs and Shrimps of the Pacific Coast,' p. 182. Four-year-old nephew delighted to be photographing poop. :-) FYI, thousands of them washed ashore in Southern California last February.

Very bright neon red orange. Could not see tail fin. I am assuming that it is tucked underneath but couldn't be sure. It was alive and responsive to my presence.

These were washed up all over the beach on Sunday morning. They were about the length of the palm of my hand. Does anyone know why?

Hundreds on the beach and in the tidepools in this cove. The large Anthopleura sola were disgorging big red piles of crab exoskeleton and the shore crabs were playing tug-o-war with some of the dead ones. The third photo shows the beach tinged red with dead crabs.
