A belated catch-up with some unbelievable garden records! Again i'm playing catch up with catches from the 21st/22nd and 24th of June combined as i'm just too knackered to do the full list so here are the new species for my garden before I went jetting off to the South of France. Here are all of the new ones making the year list total increase dramatically during a warm spell with muggy mild nights. Highlights were garden firsts of Reddish Light Arches, Coronet, Blackneck, Argyresthia retinella, Endothenia nigricostana, Apotomis capreana and Hypsopygia glaucinalis. And it was also pleasing to complete the resident Hawk-moth list for the garden with Pine Hawk-moth. Garden Mothing has never been so good!! And things haven't let up at all with my first catch from last night (after getting back from France) a huge 150+ moths of 70+ species. The warm weather continues for the rest of the week with highs of 30 possible by the end of the week and tonight is looking fantastic so I will be lighting up again. Summary[edit] Description: Garden Catch 29/06/18 - A right old mixed bag A right old mixed bag of moths greeted me on Saturday morning, with plenty of time to peruse being the weekend and no work it's always easier to sort at a more leasurely pace. As it was a cooler night, I dropped down to half the wattage to the old faithful and with it beong cooler the ctch was decreased. There were still however 6 new for year species, 3 a piece for the Macro's and Micro's. Garden species count for 2018 now upto 289. Here are the new for year species. A day late posting for a rightful reason! On Monday night I once again rigged the trap up on timer (early to bed for me at 9) and was quietly confident that I would get a pretty nice catch come the morning. The conditions were perfect if a little breezy, but with a minimum of 16 degrees, a little rain sometime in the night I couldn't have asked for better. Getting up bleary eyed and rubbing my eyes I could not believe it! The trap was probably the fullest it has ever been in my 2 years of trapping here. Moths adorned most of the Perspex collar, and every hole of the egg boxes had at least one moth in it. Macro Highlights were a second garden Small Ranunculus, new for garden Dingy Footman and Large Twin-spot Carpet and the trio Coxcomb, Maple and Pale Prominent. Micros were headed by a first for me, the lovely marked Athrips mouffetella. A slightly knackered Currant Pug which just would not lay flat and kept adorning a ‘Thorn-like’ posture… I didn’t record this species last year. Also a worn Epinotia abbreviana after much identifying was a garden first. All the moths were pretty lively for their photo-shoots, well apart from a very dozy Pale Prominent. 66 Macros and with only 10 less species of Micros at 56, it really was a stonking night. Tonight looks warm and muggy again, I can’t top this list surely!
