This behaviour might be cute in kaka, but you can see the route kea tread that leads to upsetting woolly ungulates. For scientific purposes I observed its actions, for face matching anti GCSB purposes the afflicted have been obfuscated. I am told they are trying to obtain oils from the hair (no, not the GCSB, the kaka). For a replay see 1003835

Adult and juvenile kea at the lookout above the viaduct. We watched one kea glide down to the main road and wait for a car to arrive, jump on its roof, and surf it back up to the carpark, hunched down with its head forward. It all looked well practised. Kea car surfing!
