Classification of Ashy crowned sparrow lark (Eremopterix griseus). Habit and habitat of Ashy crowned sparrow lark. They prefer open dry habitats. They found in stubble, scrub, plains in open land with bare ground, grass, waste-land, riverside sand and tidal flats on the coast. The bill of ashy crowned sparrow lark is small, strong and greyish light black. Legs are short and greyish brown. Cheeks and sides of breast are brownish white. Male has dark chocolate-brown sides of face and most of under-parts. The tail is dark brown with whitish brown outer feathers. Head is paler, but look-like dark brown to black. Female is slightly paler than the male and their brown plumage are better camouflaged than the male. Nesting and breeding season is between February to September. They feed on various types of seeds and insects. Nest is a compact depression under a tuft of grass in the ground lined with grass and hair with some pebbles arranged on the edge.
