Lawrence's Goldfinch (Spinus lawrencei), male, Portervile, Tulare County, California - 11 March 2015. Logan Kahle spotted this bird and got us onto it. Not uncommon in this area apparently, but a species I seldom observe.

This was the most common bird species seen at Clear Creek. They could be seen or heard along streams almost constantly.

Permits are required to visit this area, and once you have the permits you need to call BLM to get the gate combo. At least two days in advance.

Saw flocks of 10-20 of these whizzing away from me throughout the weekend. This flock finally cooperated by roosting in this dead tree near a creek crossing. A lifer for me!!
