As an evolutionary biologist, I was particularly excited to see the Hawaiian honeycreepers. Despite specifically looking for the Oahu 'amakihi, I was not able to see any honeycreepers on Oahu. However, on Hawai'i, the 'apapane were plentiful, especially around the Kilauea Visitor Center and Volcano House. Even though I did not see any other species of honeycreeper, I definitely enjoyed watching the 'apapane visit the flowers of the 'ohi'a lehua.
