Found during low tide -- dead but quite fresh with it's head recently bitten off.

I don't know if there's enough to make an id here. Apparently the head was partially or completely missing and a WeGu was trying to eat it when we came up. I included a picture of people near it for size reference.

Believe it or not, these like to be petted. Put your hand at the entrance to their den & they'll stick a tentacle out and gently explore it. Stroke the tentacle & they'll respond with further interaction. An amazing experience! This was on a cross-bay boat trip & tidepool walk run by the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies -- highly recommended! To get the most out of the tidepools, plan your visit for an extra-low tide if at all possible.

That's a big octopus. I had the good fortune to watch this guy emerge from its refuge and slink across the pool. As I was watching its tentacles disappear, I heard a thrashing from the next pool over. I hopped up to check it out and saw the octopus was killing a pretty sizable fish. I thought I was recording video of the whole things and felt pretty awesome about it, but then realized I had forgotten to hit record. Le sigh. Found at low tide . Longer arms and subtle differences distinguish it from similar Octopus rubescens ,
