They are very big! I will try to get a closer picture tonight. They are roosting in the trees at Hotel Sahel in Niamey, Niger although I have also seen them downtown. (The farmers' market is named after the local word for fruit bat.)

"This is a fruit bat (sometimes called flying fox), a very large type of bat. In the evening 100s of them are passing from their roosting places flying up the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. High up in the sky and difficult to ""shoot"". At some times of the year they were raiding our mango trees in the garden. Quite impressive sight."

A colony of Eidolon helvum in Saint-Louis, Senegal. The bats reside in about 14 trees on private property. Unfortunately I don't have the right equipment to make good pictures of animals high up in trees.
