De hasta 1,00 m. de altura, crece desde mayo hasta finales de agosto en los robledales y en general en los bordes de caminos frescos y húmedos. Las flores tienen hasta 5 cm. de longitud y son de un color violeta o rosado fuerte, más pálidas cuando crecen en lugares más soleados.
