As reported to David Remsen from Capt. Dan Sullivan. The Gemma came across a Grampus while collecting squid in Menemsha Bight. First observed 50m from stern jumping clear of the water twice. Approached the Gemma, which was idling while clearing the net. Approached the Gemma and fed on discarded by-catch (fish). Stayed very near the boat for 10-15 minutes before the Gemma departed. Please have a look through these pictures: maybe they're all of Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), but we also saw Short-finned Pilot Whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) and Risso's Dolphins (Grampus griseus) during the tour, and some shots might show one of the 2 species.
As I returned to the parking lot, a bobcat walked out of the woods and sat down near a dumpster. It seemed about as afraid of people as a slightly shy house cat, keeping a safe distance but not appearing the least bit nervous. So I took a lot of pictures.
