Found under a slightly rotting log right off of the path in the lowland forest.

Found one on a tree log in the woods. Temperature of 22.6'C, LUX of 1060 with humidity of 68.6%.

This insect is approximately 2.25 inches long and was found inside a decaying log where they often live and breed. It is black everywhere and has glossy skin, giving it the name patent leather beetle. The abdomen has long vertical stripes (relative to the position of the picture) if you look closely.
