Description: English: Several "Mare's eggs" on a desktop scanner; one "ball" has been opened to demonstrate the jelly inside live. These are colonies of the
cyanobacteria species
Nostoc pruniforme. (Determination was microscopically confirmed by Professor Dr Ludwig Kies, Hamburg.) Note: Many other single-celled organisms also form gelatinous colonies in spherules. A reliable determination is only possible by microscope! The shown species is rather rare today. Deutsch: Einige
Date: 28 October 2005.
