Still I cannot relax after our 'once a year' snow. This time a small tuberous plant called Umbilicus.

Umbilicus horizontalis Guss., syn.: Cotyledon horizontalisHorizontal Navelwort, CR: mesnati pupi, mesnati klobuiSlo.: no nameDat.: April 24. 2015Lat.: 45.09013 Long.: 14.43466Code: Bot_867/2015_IMG7644Habitat: Directly at sea shore, vertical stony wall, west oriented; calcareous ground; open, sunny and dry place, partly protected from direct rain by vertical and slightly overhanging rocks; average precipitations 1.000 -1.200 mm/year,average temperature 13-15 deg C, elevation 3 m (10 feet), Mediterranean phytogeographical region. Substratum: soil in rock crevices.Place: Boat anchorage of Glavotok monastery, island Krk, Adriatic Sea, Kvarner, Croatia EC.Comment: Growing in a group of several plants - some plants apparently from bare rock. Flowers are still in buds. A strange looking plant with unusually shaped, meaty leaves. Not present on Slovenian part of Adriatic Sea shore.Ref.:(1) R. This is a cormous common Mediterranean plant blooming at the end of April and early May. Usually the leaves are gone when its blooming. The flowers are pending. This plant was taken at the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens, but it is spontaneous there, growing with many other wild flowers.
