"The mahogany coloration of the Pinching Beetle (Lucanus capreolus) is gorgeous. This fierce looking beetle is actually fairly harmless and aren't even predatory. They feed on plant sap. Their branching antennae resemble deer antlers and the genus name translates in Latin to ""roe deer"". The males (pictured here) have much larger mandibles and are used to battle other males in hopes of mating."
