Took an extended bathroom break today at the office. It's great to be in a state park. :)

"P annularis or P metricius? Male. ""The P. annularis male has the flagellum black in the mid section and yellow/orange apically. The male of metricus has the flagellum dark dorsally and yellow/orange anteriorly, the mid section is no different."" this is from BugGuide. I can't tell from these photos. Sometimes P metricus has a ring, and this one is pretty faint for P annularis. 1.6"" rain overnight, everything trying to dry out"

I cant remember which location of River Legacy I found this at but all I can tell you it was a very interesting find. This thing had a red head and dark wings, black and yellow legs. I couldn't tell what his thorax color was. This thing was just minding his own as we walked the trail/ This one was another earlier spotting from last year. (I have more older stuff to come but I will soon run out of old posts but I have quite a few and want to get them in before the new year rolls around.) this wasp was very beautiful but I know how formidable they can be when agitated. The last time I encountered a wasp was when I was on the Aquatic's trip at the Fort Worth Nature Center when I was using my dip net and got into the bull rush there was a wasp I scared by mistake and I wound up getting stung on the lip. This thing was docile and but he has pretty active from what I can remember form the encounter.
