This species is about 8mm long and appears attached to the alga at one end, (towards bottom of photo)- hard to be certain because of tidal movement. The green alga was attached to the side of a trench which at low tide looked about 40cm deep. The red critter was about 15cm below the water surface. I'm unsure what this is and therefore what Phylum to search through. I have added a 'context' image and another which is very poor quality but shows a slightly different angle

"If you look real close, you'll see the ""teats."" Those are actually tube feet. There are A LOT of sea cucumbers in the shallows around Kauai. And big ones. This one was only about 15 cm or so, but the biggest cukes I saw were about half a meter."

These were pretty common in reef cracks around the shallower areas of the cove.
