Sunflower star (Pycnopodia helianthoides) along the Elwha River dam removal survey transect. Divers are looking to compare what they see from previous surveys in the area. Species die off or increasing abundance during and after dam removal can reveal the effectiveness of the dam removal technique, and be instructive for dam removal efforts elsewhere.
