An adult pukeko killed on Sparks Road this morning. This is is fourth pukeko killed in the last week along this 1.6 km stretch of Sparks Road between Henderson and Sutherlands Road (plus five mallards and one goldfinch).

I counted 35 in this paddock (not all in the photo) and many others all around this area.

Hen with two chicks. In Glyceria maxima on the edge of the Waihou river. Not easy for the little chicks in that jungle. It looks flat in the Pic but it's a 60 degree bank as well.

They have been gone for about 6 years; but the Pukekos are returning to Barbados Wetland.

Several birds in paddock alongside roadway.

A small group of individuals was spotted along a small creek by the Linc Works dump site. They were calling to one another and browsing in the riparian weeds and mud. They frequent the area, as judged by the presence of old feces, worn paths, and numerous foot prints.

A bird with what appears to be a hanging tuft of feathers (Fight injury ?) It was worrying the bird as it kept scatching at it with it's foot.

Located on the out skirts of the wetland. Looked like a family group.
