"Saw this Green Fig Beetle (Cotinus mutabilis) eating from a stalk of corn in the Edible Garden at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. In the book ""Insects of the Los Angeles Basin"" this beetle is called a Green Fruit Beetle."

large green beetle with some iridescence. Loud buzzing when flying. Observed about 15 flying low around shaded back yard near grass and trees. Had not observed these before even though I've lived in the same residence for 13 years.
