Female toad. Found along the Straight Creek trail on the Lewis & Clark National Forest.

I found a squished toad, caked in mud, quite by accident. I actually kicked it with my foot on accident (I didn't step on it, it was long dead; look at the desiccation). Anyway, an ID would be appreciated. I think this is a California Toad ~ Bufo boreas halophilus. Again, ID's appreciated! Also attached is an image of a large puddle. Could this be a vernal pool and/or breeding habitat for this toad population? The toad was about a mile away from the pond/pool/puddle.

Trust me, better left unfocused...

And if being run over by a car wasn't bad enough, some other animal came along and relieved itself on the toad... that's what's on its back.
