Description:

2010.07.04 Upper Austria, district Rohrbach (mixed forest - mainly spruce, Bhmerwald 840 m AMSL).Flowering in (may) june/july.German name: Flecken-FingerwurzID: Fischer & al., Exkursionsflora (2008 3rd); while the populations of D. maculata in Austria usually are subsumed under D. fuchsii this classification is not (yet/fully) recognised by Austrian botanists (and in particular my source, Fischer & al.).The Austrian populations defintely do not belong to D. maculata subsp. maculata but it remains doubtful whether they could be considered a species in their own right - especially as there is huge diversity to be observed among the native Austrian populations, subdivisions might be necessary: according to my source, further research is necessary here.As my ID is based on Fischer & al. I will stick to the nomenclature given there till a better classification of the native Austrian forms of this species group is available.Update on ID, 2011: I'm finally changing to D. fuchsii as it seems that here indeed the information given in my field guide from 2008 is dated, and I cannot wait longer for its fourth edition coming forth.
