Description:
Pyracantha coccineascarlet firethorn. Both the common and botanical names refer to the abundant red berries this species produces. A native of southern Europe and the Middle East it thrives in the Berkeley climate. Reports of poisoning are probably overblown. Photographed along the Ohlone Greenway in Berkeley, CA
