Image of slender bushmallow
Description:
TJM and TJM2 do not recognize the southern San Luis Obispo form of Malacothamnus (named sp. gracilis) typed by Alice Eastwood in 1936. This pix shows the key character used by R. Hoover in the Flora of San Luis Obispo: 'Calyx with stellate-pubescent hairs, but hardly tomentose. The surface of the lobes not concealed' Additionally these plants form a spreading panicle rather than a spikelike raceme.
